Writing – The Fringe Festival is back in 2009 with a literary vengeance, presenting Le Smoking! Bang. Bang.

Every good writer’s festival needs a fringe – the peripheral zone where the marginal and the extreme, the new, the cool and the uncool, gather as one to push the accepted boundaries. Across two jam packed nights, this raucous bunch of Brisbane writers, media makers, performers and cultural raconteurs will blow your mind wide open as they take over the Al Capone Room from 5pm ‘til late each night.

The event promises a feast of literary showcases including knock out readings, interactive panel sessions, open mics, multi-media performances and montages, sultry divas and crooners, and mixed media cabaret acts.

The Fox Hotel will pulse to the sounds of the state’s most vibrant up and coming talent as well as some of Brisbane’s most loved writers with highlights including So You Think You Can Write, with UQP, Bics and Becks – The Writer’s Kind of Quiz Night, with Matthew Condon and John Birmingham, and Playdar, featuring Krissy Kneen.
